Only Egon returns, now in his late 30s/early 40s, still living in the firehouse to monitor the containment unit, continue his study of the paranormal and working as a university teacher. Long delayed sequel to "The Real Ghostbusters" picks up in the late 1990s, the original/Real Ghostbusters - Venkman, Stantz, Egon and Winston - have long since disbanded, seeing as how they eventually ran out of ghosts to bust and went their separate ways.

OUTSTANDING UNIQUE HORROR SERIES THAT WAS WAY AHEAD OF IT'S TIME. This show is & was extremely underrated & under appreciated but it's the only real edgy,atmospheric & adult approach to the Ghostbusters out there even darker than the movies. I had all the extreme Ghostbusters action figures but they wasn't that cool as they didn't have their iconic costumes from the show. This show is unique,edgy & smart with a real sense of danger. The darkness is all around this superb series & the eerie music fits it perfectly!!!Īlso this is the GREATEST animation I've ever seen in an animated series i mean the best looking animation it's stunning!!! Beautiful. My personal favourite was Eduardo as he was sarcastic abit like Venkman but actually funnier & he liked to be silly & have fun & often just wanted to chillout but he always was there jumping in as a hero even if he was scared (he would never admit it lol) but gotta admit all are perfect written characters & i think the one that stands out the most is Kylie the goth girl who loves the supernatural & became a huge fan favourite & the first female Ghostbuster so she's a very special character & my 2nd fave & she had alot of serious back story that got fleshed out throughout the series. Kylie,Garrett,Roland & Eduardo are the new team of teens but with the return Egon Spengler as the new teams mentor & Janine back as the receptionist so some familiar classic characters & a great new group to pass the torch it's perfectly done.
The characters are fantastic & i mean fantastic one of the best bunch of cartoon characters ever as you really care about this group even though they are just animated characters but it's that well written with good depth that you love these guys & girls & wanna hang out with them.

I'm a huge Ghostbusters fan i love both movies & Ghostbusters 2 is probably my favourite movie of all time!!! Anyway i grew up watching the real Ghostbusters animated series & collected all the action figures & was obsessed with Ghostbusters like i was with Tmnt too both huge phenomenons at that time 80's & 90's!!! The Real Ghostbusters was excellent & i love it but although it had alot of scary episodes it was more for fun & goofy humour aimed at kids but when the BRILLIANT Extreme Ghostbusters came along i couldn't believe how grown up & mature this show was it's extremely dark & sinister at times with a real dark menacing atmosphere that sucks you in & it has a fantastic moody musical score throughout & the opening new grung rock version of the Ghostbusters song is a million times better than the real Ghostbusters version so it improved on every level possible even with the writing of the stories that get very scary & very dark how it should be with a show about Busters hunting evil supernatural creatures so i so appreciated this newer more exciting teenage/adult approach to Ghostbusters!!! Some episodes are classic's & really go for the Horror theme it's like an animated version of a Horror t.v series & that's just so awesome. WOW Extreme Ghostbusters blew my mind in the late 90's when it came out it was a more mature darker series of the Ghostbusters that i was already obsessed with since a little kid. Without being a masterpiece, "Extreme Ghostbusters" is the perfect proof of how a classic franchise could be updated without losing the main essence from it, resulting in something that could be enjoyed by new viewers and fans of the original stuff as well. And the animation, without being great, keeps a good level during the whole series, having some cool designs of characters and monsters.
The new stories are quite good and interesting, showing a great character development in each episode. In "Extreme Ghostbusters" new team of young ghost-busters have to deal with some of the most terrifying creatures and villains, in a series which combines perfectly well the seriousness with some effective moments of comedy. The storyline takes place some years later and the atmosphere and the stories were darker than in the movies or in the first TV-show, but that is good.
I always have been a big fan of the movie "Ghostbusters" directed by Ivan Reitman, and I think that this show is a great addition to that world.
